The MSPO Trace was launched in November 2019 comprising 4 modules: Certification; Logo; Complaints and Grievance; and Traceability. All modules have since undergone improvements after feedback from users and stakeholders.

Initially, the Traceability Module was intended as a platform to transact MSPO-certified products, with full information on stock levels, prices, transacted volumes, and parties involved. It was envisioned as a solution to all trading of Malaysian Palm Oil.

After comments from industry players, agencies, and interested stakeholders, the Traceability Module has been trimmed down to manage the core of traceability, i.e. the ability to trace the palm oil product to its source.

People want to know if the palm oil is purchased from a sustainable source in line with the Sustainable Development Goal’s 5 pillars of sustainability, namely the people, planet, prosperity, and partnership.

The Traceability Module is integrated with the Certification Module to start tracing Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) from plantations, onwards through the supply chain, from milling, refining, processing, and manufacturing. Tracing works through the combination of individual profiles of all entities, supplier & buyer databases, sales announcements, and transaction records which connects the entire value chain.

This system was pilot-tested from April to June 2020, with the cooperation of Mewah Oleo Industries Sdn Bhd, PPB Oil Berhad, and Sarawak Oil Palm Berhad. MPOCC extends its appreciation to these organisations and their dedicated staff for the positive outcomes.

The traceability transaction declaration feature within the Traceability Module was developed to comply with
Principle 2 (2022): Transparency, and IT System by the scheme owner. As such, MSPO certificate holders will have to use the Traceability Module within the MSPO Trace to maintain certification status. This requirement will be enforced from
1 September 2020 onwards.

The Traceability Module is scheduled to go live on 15 July 2020. A total of 649 MSPO Trace -Traceability accounts will be created for all certified SCCS Processing entities. MSPO Trace is freely available as a mobile application in both
App Store and Google Play.
